Observation of field-induced single impurity behavior in the heavy fermion compound Ce3Co4Sn13

چکیده
We have performed heat capacity measurements in magnetic fields to 90 kOe on single crystals of the cubic heavy fermion compound Ce3Co4Sn13. In zero field, there are no signs of long-range magnetic order down to 0.35K. However, C=T increases rapidly below 2K, reaching a very large maximum value of 4 J=mol Ce–K around 0.8K in zero field, and the high-field magnetic entropy approaches R ln 2 at 20K. Above 25 kOe, the data are consistent with a Kondo impurity with TK 1⁄4 1:2K. Short-range magnetic correlations are suppressed by magnetic fields giving way to single impurity behavior above 25 kOe. r 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. Neutron diffraction study of magnetic field induced behavior in the heavy Fermion Ce3Co4Sn13
The specific heat of Ce3Co4Sn13 exhibits a crossover from heavy Fermion behavior with antiferromagnetic correlations at low field to single impurity Kondo behavior above 2T. We have performed neutron diffraction measurements in magnetic fields up to 6T on single crystal samples. The (0 0 1) position shows a dramatic increase in intensity in field which appears to arise from static polarization ...
متن کاملLow temperature behavior of the heavy fermion Ce3Co4Sn13
The compound Ce3Co4Sn13 is an extremely heavy cubic heavy fermion system with a low temperature electronic specific heat of order 4 J=molK. If the compound is nonmagnetic, it would be one of the heaviest nonmagnetic Ce-based heavy fermions reported to date and therefore would be expected to lie extremely close to a quantum critical point. However, a broad peak of unknown origin is observed at 0...
متن کاملNoncrossing approximation solution of the anisotropic Anderson impurity model
The thermodynamic and magnetic properties of a single impurity Anderson model that describes Ce in an environment with hexagonal symmetry is treated within the noncrossing approximation. It is found that the properties of the system at temperatures larger than the crystal field splitting are described by a Kondo temperature of the sixfold-degenerate spin-orbit multiplet and at low temperatures ...

متن کاملHeavy-fermion and spin-liquid behavior in a Kondo lattice with magnetic frustration
– We study the competition between the Kondo effect and frustrating exchange interactions in a Kondo-lattice model within a large-N dynamical mean-field theory. We find a T = 0 phase transition between a heavy Fermi-liquid and a spin-liquid for a critical value of the exchange Jc = T 0 K , the single-impurity Kondo temperature. Close to the critical point, the Fermi liquid coherence scale T ⋆ i...
